nib travel insurance product updates - April 2021
(From 1 April 2021)At nib we are always looking to the future. Our approach to product development is a journey and is constantly evolving based on partner and traveller feedback. With the ever-changing expectations of our customers, partners and industry regulators, we are pleased to share our recent updates to our products.
Medical updates
- Existing Medical Conditions
- The definition of Existing Medical Conditions has been updated to focus on current medical conditions and treatments that occur within the six months prior to policy issue.
- All existing medical conditions now have the same disclosure requirements. This means there will no longer be special requirements for “high risk medical conditions” and historical pregnancy complications.
- A medical screening is required for existing medical conditions that don’t meet the automatic cover criteria. Travellers can choose to buy or opt-out of additional cover once they have completed the medical screening.
- Gastric banding, gastric sleeve and gastric bypass surgery is no longer a general exclusion.
Cover for multiple pregnancy will align with single pregnancy which may cover pregnancy-related illnesses up to the end of the 26th week.
Removal of pre-purchase eligibility questions for 70+ year old travellers.
Other updates
- Waiting period
- Automatic extension
- “Duty of Disclosure”
Includes cover for injury arising from an accident that occurs within the waiting period.
Clarification of how automatic extension works for medical claims and travel interruptions.
We have renamed “Duty of Disclosure” to “Your Duty to Us” to emphasise the traveller’s duty to answer all questions accurately.
